What the Flooring Project Budget Calculator actually calculates
Flooring and underlay are both charged on waste-adjusted area, while installation is charged on measured area only. Fixed preparation is then added. The estimate does not round materials to packs, model different underlay waste, or separately add tax, delivery, trims, and disposal.
The calculation path
Material area receives waste while installation follows measured area; fixed preparation is added.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Floor area: Enter floor area in m².
- Material per m²: Enter material per m² as a number; use the definition in the calculation method.
- Installation per m²: Enter installation per m² in the selected currency; keep tax and included work consistent.
- Underlay per m²: Enter underlay per m² as a number; use the definition in the calculation method.
- Subfloor preparation: Enter subfloor preparation as a number; use the definition in the calculation method.
- Material waste: Percentage applied at the stage shown in the method; enter 10 for ten percent.
- Currency: Label for all entered prices; no currency conversion is performed.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Subfloor repairs can dominate cost; inspect before ordering finish materials.
A practical order for entering the data
- Enter the measured floor area and material waste percentage.
- Enter flooring, underlay, and installation rates per square metre.
- Add fixed subfloor preparation cost and compare material and labor subtotals with the quote's charging basis.
Engine check using the prefilled sample
Budget example: floor area = 40 m², material per m² = 42, installation per m² = 18, underlay per m² = 6, subfloor preparation = 350, material waste = 10 % and currency = USD ($). Swap these demonstration amounts for current figures from the project before using the total as a budget.
