What the Bed Size & Room Space Calculator actually calculates
The width calculation reserves the selected side clearance twice; the length calculation reserves the foot clearance once. No separate head-end clearance is added. The fit test uses a rectangular bed envelope and cannot account for bedside tables, wardrobe doors, storage drawers, radiators, or irregular walls.
The calculation path
Bed dimensions plus selected side and foot clearances are compared with the room.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Room length: Enter room length in m.
- Room width: Enter room width in m.
- Bed length: Enter bed length in m.
- Bed width: Enter bed width in m.
- Side clearance: Enter side clearance in m.
- Foot clearance: Enter foot clearance in m.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Include the headboard depth and any outward-opening wardrobes in the plan.
A practical order for entering the data
- Measure the bedroom's usable length and width along the intended bed orientation.
- Enter the full bed-frame length and width, not just the mattress size.
- Choose walking clearance on each side and at the foot, then check both spare dimensions against other furniture.

Engine check using the prefilled sample
Worked example: room length = 4 m, room width = 3.4 m, bed length = 2 m, bed width = 1.6 m, side clearance = 0.6 m and foot clearance = 0.75 m. Replace the sample dimensions with the real room and furniture sizes, then check doors, drawers and walking paths on a scaled plan.
