What the Dining Table Size Calculator actually calculates
The fit test adds twice the selected clearance to each table dimension. Seat count is twice table length divided by 0.6 m, rounded down with a minimum of one; it does not explicitly add end seats or check width, legs, chair arms, or a circular table. Treat capacity as a rough length-based indicator.
The calculation path
Table size plus chair pull-back clearance on both sides is compared with room dimensions.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Dining area length: Enter dining area length in m.
- Dining area width: Enter dining area width in m.
- Table length: Enter table length in m.
- Table width: Enter table width in m.
- Chair clearance: Enter chair clearance in m.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Allow extra space behind chairs that back onto a main walkway.
A practical order for entering the data
- Measure the dining area's usable length and width.
- Enter the table's external length and width and the clearance required around each side.
- Check both spare dimensions, then compare the approximate seat count with actual chair widths and table-leg positions.

Engine check using the prefilled sample
Worked example: dining area length = 4.5 m, dining area width = 3.6 m, table length = 1.8 m, table width = 0.9 m and chair clearance = 0.9 m. Replace the sample dimensions with the real room and furniture sizes, then check doors, drawers and walking paths on a scaled plan.
