What the Carpet Cost Calculator actually calculates
The tool applies the waste percentage to floor area, then charges carpet, underlay, and installation against that entire adjusted area. This differs from quotes that charge fitting only on net area. Roll geometry, fixed call-out charges, thresholds, disposal, and tax are not calculated separately.
The calculation path
Adjusted area is multiplied by the combined carpet, underlay, and installation rate.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Floor area: Enter floor area in m².
- Carpet per m²: Enter carpet per m² as a number; use the definition in the calculation method.
- Underlay per m²: Enter underlay per m² as a number; use the definition in the calculation method.
- Installation per m²: Enter installation per m² in the selected currency; keep tax and included work consistent.
- Waste: Percentage applied at the stage shown in the method; enter 10 for ten percent.
- Currency: Label for all entered prices; no currency conversion is performed.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Ask whether grippers, thresholds, uplift, and disposal are included in installer quotes.
A practical order for entering the data
- Enter the net floor area and intended carpet waste percentage.
- Enter carpet, underlay, and installation prices per square metre using the same currency.
- Compare the total with a quote that identifies whether each rate is charged on measured or ordered area.
Engine check using the prefilled sample
Flooring example: floor area = 20 m², carpet per m² = 28, underlay per m² = 7, installation per m² = 9, waste = 10 % and currency = USD ($). Replace the sample dimensions and pack information with the measured floor and the exact product format you intend to order.
