What the Flooring Material Calculator actually calculates
Net area is rectangular floor area minus exclusions, clamped at zero. The engine increases it by waste and rounds up to complete packs. This area method does not lay out plank lengths, staggered joints, board direction, or reusable offcuts, and it does not include underlay or trims.
The calculation path
Net floor area is increased by waste and divided by pack coverage.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Room length: Enter room length in m.
- Room width: Enter room width in m.
- Excluded area: Enter excluded area in m².
- Pack coverage: Coverage in one complete pack from the product specification.
- Waste: Percentage applied at the stage shown in the method; enter 10 for ten percent.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Keep one unopened pack for repairs if the product may be discontinued.
A practical order for entering the data
- Enter the room's rectangular length and width in metres.
- Subtract only fixed areas that will not receive flooring and enter the product's pack coverage.
- Set a cutting allowance, then use the rounded pack count rather than dividing the displayed area again.

Engine check using the prefilled sample
Flooring example: room length = 5 m, room width = 4 m, excluded area = 0 m², pack coverage = 2.2 m² and waste = 8 %. Replace the sample dimensions and pack information with the measured floor and the exact product format you intend to order.
