What the Tile Adhesive Calculator actually calculates

Area is multiplied by the bed factor and waste factor, divided by coverage per bag, and rounded up. The bed factor is a consumption multiplier, not a thickness in millimetres. If coverage already reflects your intended bed and application method, use a factor of one to avoid adjusting twice.

The calculation path

Area is adjusted for waste and divided by the manufacturer’s stated coverage per bag at the chosen bed.

Inputs that can change the answer

  • Tiled area: Enter tiled area in m².
  • Coverage per bag: Enter the coverage stated for this product and purchase unit.
  • Bed thickness factor: Consumption multiplier relative to the stated bag coverage. Use 1 when coverage already matches your application.
  • Waste: Percentage applied at the stage shown in the method; enter 10 for ten percent.

Checks that stay outside the formula

Large-format tiles and uneven substrates usually need a higher consumption factor.

A practical order for entering the data

  1. Enter the area being tiled in square metres.
  2. Use coverage per bag at a known application thickness and choose a relative bed-consumption factor.
  3. Set a waste percentage and order from the rounded whole-bag result after checking product guidance.

Engine check using the prefilled sample

Flooring example: tiled area = 20 m², coverage per bag = 5 m², bed thickness factor = 1 and waste = 10 %. Replace the sample dimensions and pack information with the measured floor and the exact product format you intend to order.

Tile Adhesive Calculator — Ordering questions for this material

Does the tool choose the correct trowel notch?

No. Trowel choice, substrate flatness, back-buttering, and required contact coverage must follow the tile and adhesive specifications.

Why does a factor above one increase bags?

It models higher consumption than the baseline coverage per bag, increasing the effective area used in the bag calculation.
