What the Tile Grout Calculator actually calculates
The estimate multiplies (tile length plus width) divided by tile face area by joint width, joint depth, tiled area, density, and the waste factor. This approximates a regular rectangular joint network. Joint intersections, irregular edges, cleanup losses, and product formulation can change consumption; it does not calculate mixing water.
The calculation path
The standard joint-volume formula estimates grout volume and converts it to mass using grout density.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Tiled area: Enter tiled area in m².
- Tile length: Enter tile length in mm.
- Tile width: Enter tile width in mm.
- Joint width: Enter joint width in mm.
- Joint depth: Enter joint depth in mm.
- Grout density: Enter grout density in kg/L.
- Waste: Percentage applied at the stage shown in the method; enter 10 for ten percent.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Tile thickness, joint profile, and cleanup loss can change actual consumption.
A practical order for entering the data
- Enter the tiled area in square metres and both tile dimensions in millimetres.
- Enter the joint width, intended filled depth, and product-appropriate grout density or consumption factor.
- Add a waste percentage and compare the kilogram estimate with the grout manufacturer's coverage data.

Engine check using the prefilled sample
Flooring example: tiled area = 20 m², tile length = 600 mm, tile width = 600 mm, joint width = 3 mm, joint depth = 9 mm, grout density = 1.7 kg/L and waste = 10 %. Replace the sample dimensions and pack information with the measured floor and the exact product format you intend to order.
